Lausanne goes smart using mobile phone data for better traffic management

Pully, a suburb in the Swiss city of Lausanne has been chosen by Swisscom as an ideal location for trying out a new approach of traffic modelling. The company will be using large volumes of mobile phone data to model traffic flow on the main arterial roads that are responsible for a high level of congestion in the town. By using such a great amount of mobile phone data the Swiss operator believes they will get a much more accurate picture on the traffic situation serving as first step to better manage the flow and decrease congestion in the suburb.
